Fire and Burlesque Performer

Latest

Changes

Things will be changing this year. Not my style or the way that I perform, but the way that I handle things, people and approach the industry.

I have started to realise that whilst this industry seems to be about scratching backs, there are many times when people are not interested in doing so once they have gotten what they want out of the situation. I also learnt last year that people are not above helping themselves only and you can be undercut at any moment and things may go awry that you didn’t first anticipate.

I try to help others – those that I feel would work great at a show that I myself cannot do, those who want advice and also paying extra money for things that I could get cheaper elsewhere to keep the community spirit afloat.
I am no saint of course, but I like to be positive in the industry because there seems to be a lot of hurtful situations arising for everyone. Maybe it’s because we are all fighting for the same jobs now that venues are closing or maybe people are loosing faith in themselves (sometimes I find myself doing so) but people I feel are little more focused on their own success these days.

This year I will still help people, but I am a little less naiive in thinking that everyone wants to be in a community and help one another. Creativity will always be duplicated, just as I like to manipulate things that I see, so I must learn to deal with that better.

I have wanted to do my own show for a while.. that is in the pipeline and I will be sure to do something glamorous and disgusting!

I will be bringing out a new crazy twisted routine. I brought out a more neutral fire show last year so I think that it is time I plucked from the crazy roots of Galore and did something truly nutty!

And I will not be shy about my Lady Gaga inspiration. Last year I didn’t want to be known as a tribute act, however after establishing my own ‘Aurora Galore’ persona, I think I can go back to my Gaga roots without it looking anything like an imitation.

So once again, onwards and upwards..

Still fighting for my sanity and failing miserably!

But I am not giving up without a fight!

Stay Strange and Keep it GaGa

Backstage

I am super excited for 2014, and I do not mean for my first Blog Post to be a melancholy one, but rather a reflection on the throes of 2013 and how I have grown and will rectify them in my performance life and personal life moving forward.

I work extremely hard at what I do. I do admin until my eyes are square, dance until my feet bleed and break and sew until I sew my fingers together. But there isn’t anything in the world that I would rather do. Since I was a baby, all I have ever wanted to do was dance on stage. As soon as I started university I broke down and realised that I couldn’t devote myself to a life where I would be sitting at a desk watching the clock go by.

Nearly 4 years ago, I began my journey of being a performer and I have had the time of my life. I have performed in some of the most amazing countries in the world, met some of the most incredible people and been paid to do it.

However what they didn’t tell me was what I would have to give up to be a Gypsy. I always said that I would do anything and give up anything to be a performer but once it really hits you, its a lot harder than you had anticipated.

I rarely see any of my friends that I have met before my creative career; any free time I have I usually spend washing my heaps of clothes that stack up.

I haven’t had a boyfriend in years – and the last one I had, had a problem with the way that I looked, as I don’t have time to meet people in a recreational sense or devote time to dating.

My diet is disgusting. I try to best to eat well, but at 4am when you have just spent 20 minutes taking off your make up and have been wearing heels for 7 hours, you are rarely in the mood to start cooking a gourmet dinner.

I don’t have any family – some of my family members don’t approve of what I do, some live in other areas that I have left and others simply are bitter because I do not have time for them.

I don’t have any money. Arguements that brew with people that I care about simply break my heart, but sometimes when you are flat out hungry, its hard to wait an extra week.

Loneliness. One of my favourite parts about touring many places with Sukki Singapora last year was that I had a friend to share it with. Every night I had someone to sleep next to and if I felt down, I could rest my head on her lap and she wouldn’t even ask me what was wrong but let me be sad until I came around.

The sad truth of choosing a creative way of life means sacrificing literally everything you have and giving up a lot of your life to be selfish and happy. It has taken me a while to adjust but I have found some people in my life that make it easier for me to cope. Which makes it harder once again to leave the few people that you have when you need to jet off again.

2014 is about balance for me. I have learnt that letting my work consume me – which is what I wanted to happen – leaves me short of breath if my work dries up for even a second because I have nothing left and then I begin to feel as though I am a failure.

I need to take time for myself as a person and not just as a performer and make time for people in my life – as they will come in handy.

I will of course work harder than I have ever worked this year and devote myself to my work and being the best performer that I can, but will also remember to slow down when my health and sanity is at risk!

I can’t wait to indulge in 2014. I will still bring the Galore. Still bring the Gaga. And I am still living for the Applause.

Remember that I have declared 2014 the Year of the Weirdo!

We will Rise, and you better watch out!

Stay Strange and Keep it GaGa

2013: The Blog

WOW! What a year I have had! I can hardly believe it myself!
I constantly feel as though I am never good enough, I will never be understood as an artist and as a performer but I have forced myself to be as perfect as I can be and I am so happy that I did not give up.

Looking back through my facebook, pictures and my other social media networks, I realised that I actually have done quite a bit this year! And quite a bit that I am not only proud of, but that I would never have thought I could do.

I have somewhat transitioned or should I say, drawn a distinct line between myself as a fire performer, and my burlesque performances. I am very happy with this as I am viewed on two different levels and it allows me to be creative in two different ways. I am opening with this as I feel that was a really hard yet successful thing for me to do.
But for everything else, we shall start with..

January –
I started the year by Graduating! I finished my degree (in English Literature) and graduated in Kingston which was a lovely achievement 🙂 Tour Buddy, Sukki Singapora and I did a photoshoot with the wonderful Diana Thompson. We wanted to created some bold images to promote the tour that we had already been working on for a couple of months, and she did an amazing job. I also did a rather naughty-Galore photoshoot with Rhinoas Photography!

February –
I performed at the Queen Calavera in Hamburg, Germany. I spent around 4 days there, albeit sick as a dog, but it was a really wonderful start to my shows outside of the UK for 2013.  It was also where I went to see Wear it like a Crown – an avant garde circus show that literally changed my life. From that point on, I wanted to be a performance artist and create magic versus just dancing around seamlessly. I did a photoshoot with Tigz Rice Studios. I really liked these images and will be doing another annual one shorty! I did a photoshoot with Simulacra Studios whereby I explored some feminist ideas through the motif of one of my favourite pieces of literature, The Yellow Wallpaper. I also went to see The Burning Beat in an immensely satisfying hair outfit, which I was particularly excited about as I made it all from scratch! The next show is coming up in January – so who knows? I may attend even hairier! I also went to see Wicked in the Theatre, which I balled over as it was spectacular and I am a crazy Wizard of Oz fan and have been a fan of Wicked by Gregory Maguire for many years.

March –

For my birthday, I performed at the Karlsruhe Tattoo Convention in Germany. This was great fun and I don’t like to celebrate my birthday so it was good to be away. I performed at the Erotic Awards at Bush Hall which was incredible. I got to breathe some insane fire and meet some really fantastic people and performers.

April –

I headed to San Francisco with Sukki! What a great time I had there! We stayed with some of the most incredible women, worked with some outstanding performers and for me I was able to learn a lot about myself. Being such a loner, I was forced into a situation where I had to share my space and thoughts which has served me well as I am a lot more generous and open with people. Also as a performer who seemed to get pushed to the back for being (intentionally) ugly, it really solidified how much I am on board with what I am doing and how much I needed to push my image and my point of view even further to make people notice! I performed at the legendary Bootie which is still one of my favourite shows of the 2013; it was just amazing! I did a photoshoot in San Francisco with the wonderful Patrick McCracken and then we headed to LA where we also did some wonderful shows and did a photoshoot with Andrena Photography in the space where they used to film M*A*S*H!

May –

May was spent in New York with some truly wonderful and generous people. I performed at the legendary Slipper Room and at Time Scare in Time Square with the amazing Jonny Porkpie. One of my favourite moments was dressing up and going to see The Great Gatsby in Time Square with Sukki and Joe the Shark 🙂

June –

In June I went to Japan! Both to Kyoto and Tokyo to perform in some amazing and life changing shows. The responses we got were just incredible! I never thought that I would feel so special as a performer. It was so heart-warming. After returing from my tour, I also performed with JLS and Peter Andre at the Crazy Bear Garden Party! I cut a massive chunk of my hair off, which was a big change for me, but also the start of a new chapter. I uploaded my Tassel Twirling video which has nearly got 10,000 hits since then! And lastly, I performed at The Croydon Tattoo Convention with hotties Dave the Bear and Chi Chi Revolver which was so much fun!

July –

July was a little slow for me workwise, but I start filming with my lovely friend Mark R Charade, which unbeknownst to me would turn into such a broader creative project. But it was a wonderful start. I spent some time dressing up in crazy outfits at Soho House and finally unleashed the GaGa blonde wig! I bought it so long before I wore it, I just needed to find the right moment to become GaGa whilst still being Galore 😛

August –

August was the Edinburgh Fringe Festival which was so much more fun this year. I went for longer, did a lot more shows but also went to see some incredible exhibitions, plays and shows.

September –

I debuted at Torture Garden in September which I was super excited about as I had been going there pretty much since I turned 18! Upon seeing a few too many Red, White and Blue acts, I decided to bring out a new GaGa act. The new single and album brought about a new attitude for me also. Around the end of August I wanted to completely quit everything, but GaGa (amongst other things) helped me push on and be somebody new. So I debuted my Applause act. I also spent a week at Supperclub in Amsterdam which was so incredible. I debuted my new fire act which was The Joker and got to spend time with creative and exciting people. I was also in the Sunday Times for a piece they did on Neo Performance Art via the Save Rubyyy Jones Revue.

October –

This month I performed at The Stockholm Burlesque Festival which was probably another one of my favourite performances of the year. The stage, the crowd, the organisers, everything about it was amazing. and the next day I ended up winning the Tassel Twirling competition which was awesome! I also got to perform at Erotica and Supperclub around Halloween weekend which was just great. And again, places that I have been going to and in awe of for a long time. So that was really an achievement for me.

November –

In Novemeber I finally decided to get some more work done on my sleeve tattoo as it had been a while since I had anything done to it. I performed for a weekend at The Aeronaut which was particularly exciting as CNN came, filmed and did a piece on the venue. I performed at The Rose Theatre in Kingston, which was the stage that I has graduated on in January. That was a lovely moment for me as I felt as though I had done something beyond what people had expected of me. I brought out my more neutral Fire Act which I really like and am happy that it can be performed in a number of venues that aren’t strictly Neo. I launched I like it Ruff – my new Art based company, that sells Ruffs, Cuffs, Anklets and all things related. As well as exploring odd beauty, conceptual visuals and quirky fashion. I also found out that I will be performing with Immodesty Blaize on Valentine’s Day at Kinky and Quirky which should be marvellous!

December –

At the beginning of this month I performed at The Katzenjammer Club which was great fun as I made a crazy ruffled coat just for the occasion! I also finally continued my video shoot with Mark R Charade. We did some additional photos for I Like it Ruff‘s promotion, but I am really happy with the progress we have made with my personal promo video. I have come a long way in letting people film/photograph me so it was a big step for me. We are also in talks for some amazing visual projects for next year.

I really have had such a life-changing year and I am eternally grateful to everyone that has supported me, pushed me and to be honest doubted and judged me – because it has forced me to be happy in my own skin and continue to strive for my artistic goals.

I have met some of the most incredible and inspiring people this year, and had some existing friendship really solidified.

I already have so much planned for 2014 and will do my absolute best to pull it all off.

Watch this Space, because it’s gonna punch you in the face!!

Stay Strange and Keep it GaGa

I Like it Ruff meets Mark R Charade Photography

I have finished my Christmas shows and am all ready for a brief break so I thought I’d post a little something about my shoot this week.

Myself and my kindred spirit Mark R Charade have been working for some time to put together a promo video for me however as I am a perfectionist and we both have strong aesthetic visual ideas so it has taken a little longer than expected. I am also launching my I Like it Ruff website soon and I wanted some unique and special visuals for it also. Although I am just selling my Ruffs, I thought it could be a great opportunity for us to go for the gusto and make it more of an art story rather than just a product! So this week we decided to harness our creativity into both making the imagery for I Like it Ruff as well as continuing our ongoing video project.

We started with a photoshoot in Mark R Charade’s studio. He tested some different lighting techniques and I tested out some new wigs! I find it hard to have my photo taken so the photos are a little more sombre of me, however I quite like that. It gives us an opportunity to build different stories and characterisations around different types of costume pieces. We also got some photos of Mark too. He has such a strong visual impact that i thought he would look great on the website. (And we at I Like it Ruff believe that any gender can rock a Ruff or a Bonnet!)

We then headed to Supperclub London- where I was also performing that night- to film some fire footage for my promo video and potentially for I Like it Ruff’s promo also. We experiemented with different lighting, angles and costumes. Mark also tried some Slow Motion video techniques which has worked beautifully in his previous videos.

After the fire performances in the main space, we found a more enclosed space to execute my more weird and edgy style of performance with some blood and creepy faces- as one does! I wanted to make sure that the video is varied and has my more subtle (ish) side as well as my more creative side.

Mark also filmed my live performance that night as I feel as though I perform my best in front of an audience. Plus I got some fire breathing in there too!

All in all, I feel as though we worked so much better together now that we are able to input our own creativity as well as our combined concepts. This is a wonderful starting point and I am very excited for our upcoming projects and work to come.

Below are some pictures from the day as well as some behind the scenes shots 🙂

La Week a la Galore!

This week has been so hectic, I cannot even tell you!

I have been many characters, been to many venues and genuinely lost my sanity! But Alas! It has returned and out of it has come a Blog Post so all is not lost!

Monday (9th) – I performed at Cirque Le Soir! I resurrected the Ice Queen in full capacity, which was great 🙂 I really enjoyed this show, and became a completely different Aurora!

Tuesday – Was 20s day! So once again a different look for me, but so much fun! I spent the morning setting my finger waves and really enjoyed the show! Other performers were Scarlett Belle and Rubyyy Jones! I performed a Fan Dance to Young and Beautiful by Lana Del Ray – as it was a Gatsby theme. Different for me, but it was nice to do something nice!

Wednesday – I spent the day building my I Like it Ruff website and re-builing http://www.auroragalore.com which will both be live by the new year! I need to get my lookbook done for ILiR and spend time transferring things over, but I got a lot done and made a great start. In the evening, I went to Crazy Bear to see my dear friend Mark R Charade of The Roustabouts DJ which was fun as always!

I Like it Ruff Fan Page – Pop me a LIKE 🙂 https://www.facebook.com/ilikeitrufffashion?ref=hl

Thursday – Typical Admin and costuming and so forth, however the evening was spent at It’s Your Funeral! What a great show; I performed my newest fire act here which I think went well. I did a snow spinning finale and used alot of choreography which I always prefer. I wanted to do something a little more neutral, but still me and I think this is a keeper! Finally!!

Friday – Friday I did a double shift at Cirque Le Soir! I was the Snow Queen again, but with different hair – that’s right, I break all the rules!!

Saturday – I spent some time constructing an outfit and headpiece for Saturday’s Show. The Katzenjammer Cub was on and so of course, I went to watch it! I decided to wear a bald head – but of course with a Galore twist – I wore a mannequin head as a headpiece 🙂 The show was great, man I cannot get enough of Marnie Scarlet! What an Artist- ahh so inspiring! Other performers were Florian Brooks, Des O’Connor and Mary Beth Morossa 🙂

The last show of the year will be on Saturday – Get tickets here! There is a Killer Line-Up! https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-katzenjammer-club-a-new-nightclub-cabaret-tickets-9070270423

Sunday – Today was a Myra Dubois’ Charity Event! This was held at The Black Cap and was great! Myra is so funny!!! I got home relatively early to get an early night sleep! My body had other plans, and managed 3 hours – this did not go down well…

Monday (16th) – Lack of sleep made me loose my sanity! I had a little psycho breakdown! But all was rectified by the time my show came around in the evening! I performed at Supperclub London! This is a show I love so much! I did my new fire show and got to fire breathe uber high! Yess!! Other performers included Felipe Reyes and Diego! Really fun show!

So all in all, a very packed week, but an amazing week!

This week!!! I am back at Supperclub London, I have a video and photo shoot for myself and I Like it Ruff, a show with Crazy Bear, and a show with Dave the Bear, Cherry Deville and Banbury Cross in Derby!! I cannot wait! I promise to cram in sleep!!

International Galore!

Boy oh Boy!

So much has happened since my last post that I will try not to bore you with it all!

Last week I had a run of shows at The Aeronaut in Acton. A decked out pub that now looks like a circus tent. I had so much fun performing there! It was the same cast for three days which was a really nice change. One of the days CNN came by and did a little filming which was incredible! I am really looking forward to seeing what they do with the footage!

I have done a few nights at Cirque le Soir which is great because I get to play dress up and be a complete character and dance like a nutter which suits me just fine 🙂

Last week I had a whole 5 days off and went home to Gibraltar to celebrate my Granny’s 70th birthday. She really is such an inspiring and amazing woman and it was so nice to relax with her and my mummy who I hadn’t seen in over a year! I also hit the fabric shop out there- so I can get some international ruff action happening oh yer 😛

And lastly, I performed at The Katzenjammer Club last night which was fun as always. I turned up the sauce by debuting pasties at the event- but seeing as the weirdo that I am lacks any sort of sex appeal; I doubt it made quite the statement that I thought it did! Nevertheless I had a wonderful time once again!

For the rest of December, I have some amazing shows I will be performing at this month and I plan to amp up the crazy! After seeing the amazingness that is Effie in the new Hunger Games and the absolutely spectacular Sharon Needles in Drag Race I am so inspired and feel as though I need to push what I’ve got going on the the nth degree! If I’m too weird to be booked now, then it won’t make a blind bit of difference is I fall off the weird cliff- So expect some wackier stuff from old Galore in the near future!

Antics Galore!

I am soo sorry I have not done a blog post in over a week; believe me I am just as sad as you are… or potentially the only one that is in despair over this!

Nevertheless, here is a little snippet of what has been happening in Galore land recently!

Today I taught a Fan Dance class with the beautiful Lou onthe Rocks from Switzerland. It is so much fun doing a one to one with someone and it always makes me realise that I really have no clue how I do things on stage, it just kind of comes second nature to me. So I learnt some things too!

I have started my new little venture called ‘I Like it Ruff’

Feel free to pop me a like on Facebook!

https://m.facebook.com/ilikeitrufffashion?__user=559887632 I love making and building Ruffs and Ruffles and all things related so why not share the love! I’m not planning to make money, I just really enjoy it!

Last weekend I performed at The Katzenjammer Club ( a new night by The Roustabouts) which was a lot of fun. A created a special act (Video Below) to one of the new tracks from the Artpop album which I really enjoyed dancing to.. go figure!

I created my new Grey crazy ruffle coat that will be used for my new Fire Routine. So it was good to see how it worked on stage. Other performers on the bill were Dusty Limits, Lili La Scala and Sammy Dinneen who blew me out of the water!

But I did get an awesome new quote from Dusty Limits, ‘the most incredible bottom since A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ That went happily in the win column! So all in all, a brilliant night : )

Other festivities have included going about town to watch some DJ sets, sewing, rehearsing excessively and going to the Hippodrome Casino to see Chrystal Cabaret. Lovechild of Burlesque amazingness Chrys Columbine; getting to see her Fan Dance and Leah Debrincat do her thing was a recipe for awesomeness!

So generally mucho busy and mucho planning for insane and amazing things to come in the future; all in all I have had a brilliant week!

This weekend I will playing with some fire at The Aeronaut and then on Sunday I am heading to Gibraltar to see my Mummy and Granny to celebrate her 70th!

So come on down!(to The Aeronaut :P)

I love Gypsy Life!

Soo this week, I have been getting things sorted! I have lots of exciting things in the making and I am trying to make things happen 🙂

I received my video from the Stockholm Burlesque Festival, and it has gone down surprisingly well. I was a little unsure as to how my act would go down in an unfamiliar country but I decided to throw caution to the wind and be completely ridiculous! And as I have seen from the video; it appears to be the case 😛 Scroll down to watch if you have no idea what I am talking about!

This week I also booked my 3 month acrobatic course with Circus Space. I have been wanting to do it for a while, but either I missed a place or I hurt myself so it never worked out, but I am now super excited to start in January. I have been wanting to take my bendiness to the next level as I am limited to what I can achieve in my basement, so hopefully I will get much better!

I am also excited to be making another custom Ruff this week for Miss Jones. My Ruff skills are not completely up to par but I try my best and make everything with love so hopefully it will work out nicely 🙂

I have been fire breathing at the Cuckoo Club all weekend which I was mostly excited to wear my new leotard for. Yup, that’s right!

I have also bought tons more wigs and fabric, for who knows what. Been also practising my fire and rehearsing like a mad woman in general in an attempt to push fierce into a new place.

On Saturday night, I went to The Katzenjammer Club at Apartment 58 where I got to see my friend Mark R Charade DJ, and some amazing performers like Marnie Scarlet and Florian Brooks annihilate the stage! I am so happy to have seen Florian debut his new juggling act with LED clubs which was actually incredible. He is quite the swish muthafu*er 🙂 And as always, I love to see the amazing and bizarre Marnie Scarlet. Her Marilyn Monroe act was amazing, and having only seen it once before in its debut; it was great to see how far it had come and how much emotion has been put into it. Phenomenal ❤

As for me.. Well I went dressed up as some kind of Lady GaGa/ Cruella Deville hybrid. This was not my initial intention although it was perfectly fine! Now, although I did make most of the outfit, I had a few inspirations so I cannot take full credit for the idea..

The initial inspiration was GaGa in the Paparazzi video.  This has always been one of my favourite outfits of hers – wonder why 😛 #ruffs

All in all, a fun and creative week.

Stay tuned for the craziness that will be my commencing week 🙂

Lady GaGa – Artpop – Album Review

Before I get started..

No, I am not going to say 10 out of 10 and end the blog just because she is my idol; I plan to give my honest opinion about the album 😛 Secondly, if you do not like Lady GaGa or Artpop or wish to slate it, please do not do so on my blog comments as I do not take kindly to GaGa insults!

Right, so we have already heard a few songs, a few samples and have heard GaGa perform some of the tracks at the iTunes Festival, however as this is the finished product – I am going to review it as the final piece in order of the tracks on the album 🙂

Lady GaGa – Artpop

Aura – I like that Aura is the opening track. It is the track that caused some controversy because of the ‘Burqa’ references. This was the first song I heard before the release of the album. It leaked before any others and it caused quite a stir. But quite honestly, controversy is what GaGa is wonderful at, and whether you love or hate GaGa wearing a fashion Burqa; she got people talking about the topic. I absolutely love this track, however from the leaked unfinished version to the final album version there have been some changes made that I do not like. It seems as though there is an overlay on her voice that sounds a little less real and some of the keys are different and the notes are cut shorter. Saying that, I do utterly love this song and may just listen to the initial leaked version!

Venus – Dissimilarly, I heard Venus live before I heard the album version but now much prefer the album version. I was a bit skeptical about this one after seeing it on the X Factor show, however after giving it a committed listen; I am in awe. It may be one of my favourite songs on the album. It has a real happy vibe and sounds pseudo-8O’s like which I also thought about a few others on the album. It has a a real dance vibe and you kind of loose yourself in the song- it is a bit of a jump up and down and spin with your eyes closed sort of number! Absolutely beautiful ❤ ‘I can’t help but keep on dancing’ You just can’t! Ahh the Passion!!

G.U.Y. – G.U.Y. stands for Girl Under You. The opening of this follows on from the Galatical feel of Venus – the album seems to evoke a spacey sort of ambiance. G.U.Y. is a true builder, and then crashes into an awesome sing-a-long chorus. It is a bit more dirty and I just absolutely love this track! The verses are a bit more heavy and punchy, and then the bridges and chorus go softer; such an amazing track 🙂

Sexxx DreamsNow this dirrrty little number.. Starts off quite sexy, and a little mysterious. It has quite a dark club feel, but then when the chorus kicks in, it turns a bit more upbeat to juxtopose the naughty subject matter 😛 I also really like this track; it is not as strong as the previous tracks but it is still such a great song. It has a wonderful easy vibe but again has that passion that just makes you want to get up and dance 🙂

Jewels N’ Drugs – I love you Lady GaGa, but I have nothing to say about this song…

MANiCURE – Now this is an amazing clap-along, dance-along, scream-along track! From the opening beat; it has punch, it has power and it is so upbeat! If you dissect the lyrics they are a little dirty, however it is one of those tracks that you literally want to jump up and down and feel the track consume you, that you don’t know what you are singing along to! ‘MANiCURE!!.. Heeeeaal Me, ‘Cause I’m addicted to Love’ OMGG Tooo Good <3<3 No negatives for this one! In fact when reviewing this song, I had to pause my writing to put it on again and jump around like maniac!!

Do What U WantThis is the second single released from Artpop. I was a little confused at first when I heard that the male vocals were supplied by R.Kelly.. But they work so well! I think GaGa was going a little more for 90’s r’n’b which is what the song is – albeit a little more contemporary – but completely works for me. We have the punchy chorus, the dirty slowed down bridges and the utterly passionate notes when GaGa really means what she is saying! Ahhh! I absolutely love this message, seeing as GaGa has gotten a bit of backlash recently. ‘You can’t have my heart and you won’t use my mind, but do what you want with my body.’ It is wonderful for someone of such power to relinquish control of her public perception because she knows what she holds inside is hers. This is such an amazing song. Cannot wait to see the video 😀

ArtpopNow up until this point, I had held it together.. but this is when the tears started to surface 🙂 I really do have such a passionate love and respect for Lady GaGa. And this album was really started to fill me with so much joy 🙂 I also reiterate that reason that I love GaGa so much is that she just gives you an affinity to continue and push forward into the world of joy that is where your heart wants to be. This song is magical. It is a little slower and it is a song that you vibe with rather than jump about to. I found myself doing the dance that GaGa performed at the iTunes festival – once again, bringing about a sense of unity within the people that feel like outcasts. This is also the track that GaGa explores the relationship between her music and art – it really is just beautiful.

SwineNow this track.. I saw Lady GaGa perform a version of this track at the iTunes festival also. I say version, because the final release that is on the album just isn’t what it was before. I am really rather sad about this, because this is the track that I was most excited to get the “real” track of. The live version opened with an acapella chorus and an electric guitar which has been cut out. But something has happened to the beat. The back beat is drowned out too much but the heavy main beat and the recording is really off- the vocals sound strange as well. Additionally the build-up beat before the chorus drops, goes on for way to long. The song is absolutely incredible, I can’t even tell you! It was so raw and intense and GaGa was making all these squealing, piggy noises and the vocals were like singing screams of pain and passion that have all been cut out and replaced with some weird dubstep beat. It seems as though it is a little more commercial than the gritty version that she performed at the iTunes festival. Once again, I think I will just listen to the live recording track as it makes me a little sad to hear this track “cleaned up.”

Donatella – This has GaGa’s signature “talking” in the opening. The title tells me already that this track is going to be about fashion so I am already excited and it does not disappoint! It is a true dance track but a little darker and has a bit of an electronic backing, much like a lot of the other tracks on the album. It has a really beautifully sung slow bridge then smashes into an amazing dance heavy chorus. It is almost a mockery of fashionistas although the irony is, of course that GaGa is devoted to fashion. This track is so amazing – you really just want to sing along and make some kind of insane choreography just so you could bust it out in the club if it came on! Love this one!

Fashion! – This song follows on from our fashion theme and we are back in the vibe mode. I feel as though this number is a little bit of a filler. It is a perfectly nice track, but just not as inspiring as many of the other tracks. It has some pretty impressive singing though 🙂

Mary Jane HollandThis song is really lovely. It has a joyfulness about it and it really is just a happy track. I, of course love a good happy, inspirational track. And the breakdown, Oh My, is pretty spectacular!! ‘I know that Mom and Dad think I’m a mess, but it’s alright because I am rich as piss’ You sing it GaGa! And she does, with so much goddamn conviction! Makes for some seriously hot air-grabs!! I enjoyed this track greatly 🙂

Dope – Hmm now this track was another let down after the iTunes festival. This was entitled I wanna be with you. Perhaps GaGa changed it because of the recent slamming of her marijuana use but the lyrics and theme of the track have been completely altered 😦 Originally (we learned after her intro) this track was about her love for her fans and the stage. It was about yearning for things that she can never have as long as she is Lady GaGa but choosing the stage. This really resonated with me as I have given up so much to live out my dream, but I always choose the stage. I had some tears when I first heard it.. But sadly this version has been changed. The lyrics are different- they are about choosing someone over dope which doesn’t for me, really have the same impact. The recording is also not nearly as good as the live version. The vocals were so powerfully impressive live and her voice sounds a little warbly in this recording sadly. I think the love of the stage was more relateable as it seemed so real on stage and all us monsters respected her so much more as we felt as though she had chosen us. Back to the live recording once again for this number 😛

Gypsy – I was already excited about this one just reading the title! I have been saying lately that I feel like a Gypsy as I travel a lot and I feel as though I am bouncing around from stage to stage. It is strange how GaGa has seemed to have read my mind in this more recent album.. or she has been stalking me 😛 This is another power-singing, jump up and down, sing-along track. ‘I don’t wanna be alone forever,  but I love gypsy life’ So effing incredible! What a track! Very GaGa and very happy; it just warms my heart. It has been a struggle for me to be alone and devote my life to the stage and choose to embrace the weirdo in me wholly at the sacrifice of many other things. But it is amazing how a simple track can make you feel as though somebody is with you and you have a support system wanting you to succeed and be who you are. I may have shed a few tears for this one also 🙂

Applause – I don’t know that I need to go into depths about how much I love this track because we all know! It is the inspiration and music for my most recent Burlesque routine.. This track is powerful, is passionate and brought me back to life. It really is the best song on the album and I like that it is the final track.

All in all, despite being a little disappointed in the recordings of some of the tracks after I had heard them performed live at the iTunes Festival, I thoroughly enjoyed Artpop. It is everything that Lady GaGa stands for and everything that I stand for; power, passion and positivity. It really has given me something to look forward to for months and has inspired me to continue to creatively push myself to reach a point where I am happy in my work. What a great album and what a magnificent amount of respect and love I still hold for my Mother Monster ❤

Halloween Part 2

So Halloween Round 2 happened this week/end and it was a bit harder as I think I had already lost the plot, but it was so much fun!

I love this time of year so much, because everybody dresses up, gets creative and indulges in a little craziness!

I performed at the Cuckoo Club on Wednesday. Which is a fun gig with lots of colourful and happy people, and some awesome costumes 🙂

I then performed at my beloved Crazy Bear on Thursday. I dressed up as a Victorian Ghost Witch the night before just because but I decided to use that costume and try out my new fire music which I really enjoyed performing to 🙂 I also did my Zombie Fan Dance and went a bit darker with the make up but really liked the outcome.

Friday night I was performing my Circus Fire set so decided to go in a different direction and do some glittery clown make up 🙂 It is a lot less make up then I usually wear but I really liked the look and think I may try it out again in the future. That was a fun gig, as I really love that act! And people think that I am being ridiculous because it is Halloween.. little do they know!

Saturday I got to perform a set with the amazing Tankus the Henge. They have such a wonderful fan base so it was really lovely to be a part of that 🙂 After that it was straight back to the Cuckoo Club which was a little harder as it was the last show of the Halloween run, but also a lot of fun as I have had such an amazing Halloween this year.

Last night I celebrated with my friends Dave the Bear and Bonita Bitchslap which was wonderful to unwind a little and have some time to laugh!

All in all it has been such an incredible time for me this Halloween and I am grateful for everyone that asked me to be a parts of their events 🙂

I have started working and will continue to do so on my new costume which I will preview this weekend at my show. Super looking forward to it and going to add in some different and new choreography.

Keep your eyes peeled!
